REPRESENTASI RASISME DALAM FILM HOLLYWOOD (Analisis Semiotika Dalam Film “ Django Unchained”)

Every day human life is filled with information that comes from the mass media. Whether we realize it or not, the mass media has an influence in human life. One of the mass media that is widely owned and in demand by the public is television. This is because television has advantages in audio-visual in conveying messages to the audience, thus making most people interested in the same way as movies. With the large public interest in films, films have great potential to become a tool of social control, but the ideological message contained in the film does not necessarily contain a positive element, in fact the possibility could be the opposite. The problem of racism of skin color differences seems to be very interesting for Hollywood film makers to bring this theme to the big screen. As in the film "Django Unchained" is a film directed and written by Quentin Tarantino that tells about the history of slavery in the United States. The film "Django Unchained" is very controversial and has won two Oscars in 2013 is also interesting to discuss. Because of these problems, researchers are interested in researching related, How is the depiction of racism in several scenes in the film "Djangoe Unchained", so that it can describe the picture of racism in scenes in the film "Djangoe Unchained". This type of research is an interpretive qualitative, using a semiotic analysis method that focuses on audio and visual observations of the film "Djangoe Unchained". The data analysis technique uses Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis model to interpret the meaning contained in the pictures and sentences in the film "Django Unchained". This research focuses on the representation of racism in the Hollywood film entitled "Django Unchained", by Quentin Tarantino. With semiotic analysis based on extracting every sign in the illustration, as well as understanding its signifier and signified, the result of this research is that the director really describes his racism message in every illustration in the "Django Unchained" film
